Safety Tips for Summer Grilling on the Deck 

Most American’s have adjusted to “springing forward.” We’ve begun to enjoy the longer days and the great rays of sun. Spring has finally arrived, and with it comes all the perks of beautiful weather. With Spring, comes grilling on the deck and driving the neighbors crazy with great aromas wafting on the breeze!

Your grill has been hibernating all winter, and before you start making those delicious hamburgers you’ll want to go through the following check list to be sure your grill is top shape and ready to sizzle: 1) Propane-refill or exchange your tank before you begin, Your tank could have rust or a leak over the long winter and will need to be refilled. 2) Be sure no furry little creatures climbed in your grill for a long winters nap. Double check to be sure the same fur-balls haven’t sharpened their teeth on any hoses or controls. this could be very dangerous as rodents often time carry diseases. 3) Heat your grill to soften any grease or residue left from last years meals. Once hot, use  a stiff metal brush and scrub the racks clean.

Now that your grill is shined up, take note of a few safety tips for grilling on the Deck:

• Be sure you are grilling in a well ventilated area. No overhead covering on your deck. Enjoy the vitamin D while you cook up your famous steaks, besides, nothing is better than standing on your deck during a spring evening making steak and grilled asparagus.
• Give your grill a little shake, is it steady? You do not want a wobbly grill so check out the stability before the fire gets hot.
• Your deck is awesome and you are proud to have friends over to enjoy the great outdoors. Protect your deck around the grill by purchasing a good grill mat. Mustard stains. Keep it off your deck! If steak juice or mustard falls on your deck, don’t worry, you can use these products to clean it up!
• Grab any items that are flammable and get them far away from your grill. An emergency call because grilling on the deck caused a fire is not the way you want to make your party unforgettable.
