Five Home Practices That Benefit You and Are Safe for the Environment
Many people think that saving the environment means making do with less. While that approach works, it isn’t necessary. For example, if you live in an area that gets substantial sunlight, then high-efficiency solar panels on your roof allow you to consume as much solar power as you like yet still have a reduced carbon footprint. There is nothing wrong with freely consuming this type of power since the solar energy would just otherwise make your roof shingles hotter.
Living well in a way that is safe for the environment doesn’t end with solar energy. Here are five tips that both help the environment and maintain (or improve) your standard of living:
Use Ceiling Fans With Your Air Conditioning
For many, giving up air conditioning is too extreme, especially if they live in the hotter areas of the country. However, they can raise their AC thermostat settings without feeling any extra discomfort by running a ceiling fan along with their air conditioning.
Ceiling fans create a draft that cools the body through convective cooling. Convective cooling is just a fancy way of saying that the air fan creates a chill factor. This means you can set the AC system at a higher temperature setting without feeling any warmer. The power used by the fan is very small compared to the power savings you get by increasing your AC thermostat setting. Therefore the net power consumption is less.
Brush Your Teeth Without Running The Water
Running the tap water while you brush your teeth doesn’t speed up the process or make your teeth cleaner. Use a cup filled with water for rinsing. The same goes for shaving. Dip your razor into a basin filled with hot water rather than continuously running hot water from the tap.
Combine Your Errands
Write down the various errands that require driving your car, and work out ways of doing them using the fewest trips possible. This saves not only gas, but your precious time as well. Wouldn’t you rather spend your free time doing something fun instead of running around doing lots of separate errands?
Work From Home
If possible, try to arrange with your employer to work from home for a few days of the week. Solo work at the office can just as easily be done from home. Most people would agree that giving up the daily commute a few days a week improves one’s quality of life.
Use Environmentally Friendly Products
There are many environmentally friendly products that out perform their competitors that use dangerous or harsh chemicals. An example of safe for the environment products is DeckMAX deck cleaning and deck conditioning products. They are the best on the market, are plant-based, and are made in an environmentally responsible way. These products both make your life easier and help the environment.
