The Surprisingly Real Look of a PVC Deck
What if we told you could have a beautiful wood-toned deck, with the appearance and grain of real wood, but without all the splintering, decomposing, and subsequent need for incessant refinishing? That would be great right?! And what if we told you that this miracle deck were available in a variety of beautiful shades and colors, many of them remarkably akin to the look of real wood? You would probably tell yourself that we are pulling your leg and that it cannot be true. Well, we have a surprise for you, it is true. Let us re-introduce the PVC deck!
It’s True: PVC deck
Though it may sound too good to be true, tremendous advances have been made in faux-wood decking, specifically PVC decking, that have changed the way discriminating architects, contractors, and homeowners view the product. PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, has turned out to be a time-tested super-hero in the world of decking. Not to be confused with composite decking, which does contain some wood, all-plastic PVC decking can be recycled, as well as made from recycled materials.
Aside from its looks, a PVC deck’s biggest appeal is its easy maintenance. Although, of course, any surface can collect dirt or grime, with PVC these substances, or even mold, do not penetrate the protective, usually polymer, surface and are therefore easy to remove. Indeed, ease of cleaning without the need for re-staining or re-sealing are a dream-come-true for many homeowners.
And although, as with most materials, a subtle aesthetic weathering may occur over time in extreme conditions, the effects don’t compromise the stability of good-quality PVC decking. If you live in a very harsh climate, though, you’ll want to do some added research. Exceptional or unusual weather would certainly be something to consider when choosing any type of building material.
Of course, when it is time to clean your deck, you’ll want to use the proper solution to ensure long life. Selecting the best quality cleaner can be every bit as important as selecting the best quality decking material.
