Celebrate the Season with Hot Cocoa Recipes
A snowy winter scene, a crackling fireplace… When there’s a chill in the air, delicious hot cocoa is the drink of choice for kids and grownups alike. Whether you are planning a festive holiday celebration or a cozy evening for two, celebrate the season with these hot cocoa recipes and make it a special occasion.
RED WINE HOT COCOA
For a fresh take on the cold weather classic, sip some trendy Red Wine Hot Chocolate . Combine 1 ½ c. of milk with 1/3 c. dark chocolate chunks in a saucepan. Simmer over low heat, whisking continuously. Add 1 cup of red wine and heat through. Makes 2 large or 6 small servings.
KAHLUA HOT CHOCOLATE
Coffee and chocolate are the perfect pair. Elevate your grown-up hot cocoa with the flavors of Kahlua. Add 1 oz. of Kahlua and 1 oz. of crème de cocoa to each 6 oz. hot cocoa. Top with your choice of whipped cream, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips or chocolate syrup. Better yet, add them all!
Experiment with your favorite flavor combinations. Hot cocoa recipes may even call for the addition of Rumchata, Bailey’s Irish Cream or Amaretto.
FOR THE KIDS
Celebrate the season with an icy blue treat inspired by the Disney hit movie. Your kids will adore this Frozen White Hot Chocolate. Don’t forget the sprinkles!
INGREDIENTS:
- ½ c. white chocolate chips
- 1 ¾ c. milk
- ¼ tsp. vanilla
- Blue food coloring
- Whipped cream and sprinkles
Heat milk and chocolate chips over low heat. Simmer, stirring continuously, until the chocolate has melted. Remove from heat and stir in 2-3 drops of food coloring and vanilla. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles.
