Prepping for the Holidays

We’re just a week away from Thanksgiving!  It’s been a busy year, but we still can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by either. While most people think about the Thanksgiving menu, we like to think about ways to entertain and bring comfort to your guests and neighbors.

Here are a few simple tips for prepping for the holidays:

1.  Character

We’re not talking about Disney characters, even though it seems like everyone is going for the “Frozen” theme lately.  We’re talking about your home’s character, its own personality. If you love country decor, continue with the character of your home and look for vintage pieces like an old sled.  If you have a minimalist design, select a color theme and keep the decorations crisp and not cluttered.

2.  Brightness

Decorating the front of the home is tradition, but don’t forget about your back deck. Sure there are plenty of lighting fixtures you could purchase, but here are a few inspiring ideas you could do with just about an hour of time.

Trim Lighting:  If you’d like to trim the deck with simple lights, use table top holders to keep the lights in place.  They’re simple to add on and remove.

Tree Lights:  This technique will keep you off a ladder and safe from harm!  Here’s a simple and cheap way to decorate your front and back porch.  Simply get a few tomato cages and wrap with Christmas lights.  It’s so simple yet beautiful to see from the sidewalk.

3.  Warmth

Blankets:  Be sure to have plenty of blankets and throws available for cuddling on the sofa.  They don’t have to match but we find the soft velvet-to-the-touch blankets go first.  And don’t forget the throw pillows.  Perfect for an after dinner nap!

Beverages:  Guests seem to stop by at any time during the holiday season.  Have a good supply of coffee, teas, hot chocolates, and few alcoholic drinks at the ready.  Check out this Holiday Sangria recipe.
