Enjoying Sports on Your Deck and Kick Off This Year’s Football Season in Style!
Summer is finally over with and school has started. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting colder. It’s time to stop worrying about sunscreen and drinking water while working outdoors and start thinking about all the great things fall has to offer. This, of course, means football and enjoying sports on your deck. Yep, it’s time to pull out your favorite jersey and get your friends organized as to whose house hosts, for which games. When it’s your turn, plan something different with a party on your deck. Here are some things to get you started.
Furniture
It’s time to move your regular outdoor furniture with its wicker frames and flowery cushions into the garage for storage over the winter. Bring a table out on to the deck for food and drinks. For sitting around with the guys, you can pull out your comfy lawn chairs your wife normally keeps hidden away. For an authentic tailgate feel, you can store drinks in ice chests and place them around the deck. It gives the guys a place to set down their plate and drink while cheering on your favorite team.
Decorating
In addition to wearing your favorite team jersey, you can go to almost any party store and get plates and cups in your favorite team’s colors. You can get a banner printed to cheer your favorite team to victory. Look around for recipes featuring food you can shape like a football, such as a cheese ball or a pizza with pepperoni organized to look like a football. My favorite is a large brownie cake shaped like a football, with vanilla icing for the stitches.
Watching the Game
If your deck is wired for power, you can consider bringing your flat screen out for the game or move everyone inside when the game starts. To save yourself a lot of clean up, encourage everyone to go back out on the deck during the half-time show to eat/ drink and discuss questionable plays and calls, and how horrible the referees and opposing team are.
