Quick & Easy Outdoor Deck Decorating Ideas
Are you looking for quick and easy outdoor patio or deck decorating ideas? There are still a lot of things you can do to make your deck or patio an inviting place this summer:
- Light up the night by wrapping some Christmas lights around trees or deck railings. Using warm neutral colors will invite you outdoors, while blue or purple lights will create a festive mood.
- Change your plantings–replace your current plants with new ones, especially ones that are mosquito-repellent, like lemon grass. You can replant your old plants in a different part of the yard, or in decorative pots that you can rearrange as the mood strikes.
- Change your fabrics. If you have cushioned patio furniture that is looking faded and worn, you don’t have to replace it. You can replace the cushions, or just recover the existing cushions with a new fabric. If you use similar colors to those that are in the room just inside the deck or patio, you will create a welcoming flow of traffic. Want a whole new look but not sure what colors would pair well together? Go to the paint area of the hardware store. Select booklets with your favorite colors. They give great pairing suggestions like browns and aquas, fuschias and oranges, or yellows and blues. Let their designers inspire you. Then hunt for specific items like pillows, placements, floor mats, etc.
- Create your own floor mat. River stone and pebbles are simple and beautiful. Try this DIY project this week.
- Paint your furniture. If your patio furniture is looking faded or worn, you can paint the furniture for a fraction of the cost of replacing it. Fresh paint, along with the new fabrics, can make the whole patio set look new. Consider UP-CYCLING! Visit a local consignment shop and get a “new” set at a fraction of the cost. Use an effective cleaner on your outdoor furniture like DeckMAX’s RTU Cleaner or use Metal Wipes & Cleaner Bundle to brighten up dingy looking furniture. Like it as is, enjoy! If not, consider painting the cleaned UP-CYLCED furniture.
- Buy new dishes. If you use your deck or patio for dining, a new, color coordinated set of dishes, glassware, and silverware will go a long way to freshening up the look. You can find great deals on closeouts, or collect a set from a local thrift store–they don’t have to match if they are similar in color, and can give your outside dining a wonderful kitschy feel!
- Take cover. A simple awning or mosquito net can create atmosphere while shielding you from the sun or pesky bugs!
- Set out candles. Candles provide a soft, romantic light. Place some candles in a bucket of sand for a wonderful centerpiece.
